Britain’s fastest road course – Thruxton – is to be part of rFactor 2’s Q4 November Content Drop, it has been announced today (4th November 2022).

Studio 397 continues its quest to bring official British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) content to its increasingly popular sim culminating in the Hampshire circuit’s addition to the platform. Thruxton has been used consistently by the BTCC since 1979 (under its former British Saloon Car Championship guise).

The track’s current layout was first used in 1968, utilising perimeter roads of the RAF Thruxton airfield. Its 2.356-mile configuration currently holds rounds of national championships including the British Superbikes Championship and Formula 4. It has previously also hosted the British GT Championship, Formula Two and Formula Three series.

Its motorsport activities have been curtailed by noise restrictions in recent years but the circuit still operates a successful driving experiences business alongside its other driving-based activities.

Thruxton is a popular circuit with drivers and fans alike, with bumps, high-speed turns and grassy run-offs providing a stern challenge for competitors – one mistake through Goodwood can ruin a race in double quick fashion.

The track also features the fastest corner in British motorsport – Church – which can be taken at around 140mph in a BTCC car, and significantly more in a formula/prototype!

Interestingly, despite technological advancements and increased power outputs, the BTCC lap record is still held by a 2000 Super Touring car, showing the track is more about carrying speed through its fast corners than pure horsepower (Jason Plato’s 1min:13.272s shades Tom Ingram’s 2020 lap record by nearly three seconds).

Thruxton will be made available alongside other announced content like the Vanwall Vandervell LMH, the BMW 330i M Sport BTCC car and the Bahrain International Circuit, with the exact November release date yet to be announced. The cost of the new content has also still to be determined.
