Animoca Brands – a Hong Kong-based blockchain, NFT and metaverse business – has purchased Eden Games, best known for the creation of V-Rally and Test Drive Unlimited.
The Lyon, France, studio initially formed as a nascent development group within Infogrames to create V-Rally and has since created several racing games including F1 Mobile Racing in collaboration with Codemasters and the recently launched the Apple Aracde exclusive Gear.Club Stradale.
Animoca Brands, meanwhile, publishes mobile collection games MotoGP Ignition and Formula E: High Voltage, and also recently took ownership of Grease Monkey Games – who is making Torque Drift 2 with the official Formula DIRFT licence.
These are part of the REVV Motorsport ecosystem, dubbed as a metaverse, and it’s creating titles for this blockchain-powered NFT platform that Eden Games will now be focused on.
“We look forward to producing new experiences that challenge the status quo within the motorsport genre and venture into new frontiers such as Web3 alongside a leader in the space,” said Eden Games co-founder and head of studio, David Nadal.
In recent years, the studio has primarily been working on the Gear.Club franchise, to a somewhat mixed response. Similarily, Animoca’s reliance on trading NFTs is at odds with the current negative sentiment towards the technology.
It is believed that work will continue on EA, Codemasters and Eden Games’ F1 Mobile Racing title without interruption.
