Your guide to Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races, w/c 5th June: Spend your day in Daytona

Justin Melillo
New Sport Races to kick off June 2023 are now live. It’s a lot of basics with Daytona races, Gr.3 and Gr.4 events, and a quirky Mazda race at Tsukuba.

In this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, there’s a lot of fun and hard, competitive racing to be found. Once again, it’s me, the American, so apologies for it not being the usual GT7 buffs with the normal knowledge.

Daytona Road Course with Gr.4 headlines the races this week, a short endurance race with loads of opportunities to race opponents into the many passing zones offered up. It is a longer race, so if you get punted into the first corner, there’s plenty of time to make that back up.

There’s also a ranked race at the fictional Autodrome Lago Maggiore, which is a fun, yet short circuit with a few places to dive it in and take spots. That one is Race B. For Race A, the unranked race, it’s probably my personal favorite, with some Mazdas taking on Tsukuba Circuit. Perfect combo.

Also, pretty cool, the game wished me a Happy Birthday. A day early, but still cool. Did you know this was a thing on GT7? I can’t use this car in any of the races on the menu today, but still a great add nonetheless. Thank you, Sarah.

Anyway, as always, you can find GT7’s Daily Races in the game’s Sport Mode, offering online ranked racing where you will be placed within events based on your previous performances.

Race A – Mazda at Tsukuba

Tsukuba Circuit is underrated. Add in the always fun addition of a slower car and you have struck gold. The Mazda Roadster NR-A (ND) ’22 is a fun little front wheel drive car. On top of that, they put on an incredible show when you get three of more of them under a blanket, all trying to out-brake one another.

As it is, you want to find the flow and keep the momentum up off of each corner. Drive it in too deep and you’ll be sliding off into the grass or worse, a sand trap. The backend has a tendency to kick out on corner entry if sent too deep. If it holds, it may understeer. Manage your momentum and you’ll be set.

No rankings to worry about either so go nuts. Not too nuts, but feel free to have fun with it.

Race B – Gr. 3 at Maggiore

Perhaps the fastest driving race of the week, Autodrome Lago Maggiore offers up some Gr.3 racing for Race B in the Center Reverse layout. Lap times are sub 50 seconds, and the best drivers are under 45 seconds.

This track has two passing zones with heavy braking, into the left-handed Turn 1 and into another left-handed corner at the end of the lap just before the final chicane that leads back to the start/finish line.

The popular car on the speed charts and in the sessions looks to be the Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R ’15, although the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ’15 is also a great choice this go around. My personal preference would probably be the Lamborghini, but you could go with either.

Recommended car: Dodge Viper SRT GT3-R ’15 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C – Gr. 4 at Daytona

One of the most-iconic venues in all of motorsports takes center stage for Race C. Daytona International Speedway hosts a 10-lap Gr.4 battle. The overwhelming favorite car this week has to be the Bugatti Veyron Gr.4. Literally everyone had one in the race I did, and they are all atop the times, like on the whole first page.

Pretty simple, nothing out of the ordinary. No rain to contest with, no mandatory pit stops or tire strategies or fuel mileage. Just a straight up race around the famed venue. There are many opportunities to earn penalties, and it is BRUTAL to get them across the slow-down just before the line.

Recommended car: Bugatti Veyron Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap time challenges

The latest Lap Time Challenge uses the GReddy Fugu Z at the Streets of Willow Springs Reverse course A new event will be available on the 8th of June.

There’s also a new lap time trial this week at the 24 Heuers du Mans Racing Circuit, perfect timing for the real-world 24 Hours of Le Mans event this week.
