Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, wc 24th July - not so Radical

Following last week’s surprise addition of a ~40-minute race, temporarily at least, Gran Turismo 7‘s Daily Races are back to a more sensible format, with three relatively straightforward races for you to enjoy and hopefully move up the rankings through.

For those new to these events within the game, you can find GT7’s Daily Races in the game’s Sport Mode, offering online ranked racing where you will be placed within events based on your previous performances.

Race A

Don’t do this…

After two weeks of events themed around the recent new car additions, we’re back to the venerable Gr.4 category.

The reimagined Grand Valley is in use, but the lesser-spotted shorter South layout. The final sector is deceptively tricky, with a sharp 90-degree right-hander, followed by an off-camber left, and straight into a late apex right.

Study this section, as it’s where we think the most time can be gained but also lost.

Only those Gr.4 cars that are four-wheel-drive can be selected this week, signified by the small ‘4WD’ icon in the garage select screen. That means six in total.

Our heart says the 1993 DTM Alfa Romeo 155, but the leaderboards suggest it’s not very competitive around this venue. But, a clear pick isn’t obvious, so the Bugatti, Lamborghini, Mazda or Subaru are all capable of winning. Just for the incongruity, let’s go Veyron.

Recommended car: Bugatti Veyron Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Race B

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Race 24th July - Peugeot VGT

Stepping up both the pace (Gr.3 instead of Gr.4 cars) and jeopardy (this race, unlike A, affects both Driver and Safety Rating), Race B takes us to America and the Daytona Road Course.

Just four laps, so no strategy in place here other than be as quick and clean as possible.

That first corner is always a magnet for trouble, especially on the opening lap. Try to keep to the left and brake earlier than anticipated while everyone else spears off to the right.

The quaint Peugeot VGT looks to be a winner here, its slippery shape is good for top-end speed, while the mid-engine orientation provides a sharp turn-in for the two hairpins.

Recommended car: Peugeot VGT Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Race 24th July - Radical SR3

Forget the Group C cars around Circuit de la Sarthe with potential tyre strategies, this week’s Race C is a simple affair.

Everyone is in the same Radical sports car, on the same sports hard rubber and with mild 1x fuel usage and tyre wear. It’s also back to a 25-minute affair.

What’s the catch, then? Well, one pitstop is mandatory at some point in the race, so that will mix things up at least a little.

Road Atlanta is a high-speed circuit, and the Radical has its quirks, preferring short shifts up through the gears. This is true even down the long back-straight, and mid-range torque is this car’s forte.

Recommended car: Radical SR3 SL ’13 (Brand Central, 126,500 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenges

Two Lap Time Challenges are available at the time of publication. One takes place with the Red Bull X2014 Junior at a wet Spa-Francorchamps and the other is for Gr.3 cars at Autodrome Lago Maggiore’s West End layout, the former of which is about the end soon on the 27th.
