You can refuel, or recharge, your car in Assetto Corsa EVO’s open-world

Realism, folks.

It has been confirmed that within Assetto Corsa EVO’s open world, or ‘freeroam’, segment, that car fuel and charge levels must be monitored.

A 1,600km2 area in the German Eifel region surrounding the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which is believed to be some kind of separate game mode away from the likes of Mount Panorama or Imola, has recently been unveiled.

It is set to include real-world buildings, signage and local businesses, plus a degree of interactivity.

Now, Marco Massarutto, Co-Founder and Executive Manager at EVO’s creators Kunos Simulazioni has also confirmed that refuelling will occur in this environment.

“Yes, yes,” he said when answering Michel Wolk of OverTake’s question about refuelling.

“In the open world, you live the life of a petrolhead, except if you crash the car, you don’t need to pay real money,” he explained to OverTake.

“We want to provide our community [with] an experience that is very immersive, without being frustrating.

“For example… There will not be a speed limit and you will not be billed if you go over the maximum limit of speed. Definitely, you are not going to be rewarded if you hit a wall or go over the speed limit.”

Whether or not the fuel has to be paid for via in-game currency remains unanswered. It is beyond doubt, however, that micro-transactions will not be part of EVO.

Thank goodness, otherwise, that could be a pain point should you leave your filling to the end of the month before payday like us…

This game mechanic will also apply to electric vehicles too, with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, plus an Alpine A290 concept, previously unveiled for the hotly-anticipated

“Electric cars are also confirmed, so you will have to recharge the car,” continued Massarutto.

But, perhaps mercifully, keeping an eye on your vehicle’s energy levels shouldn’t be mandatory.

“We will have some game modes that will simplify some of these things, as I said, we want to provide an immersive and fun experience, but if you want to go for the realism you can.

“Possibly, the more realistic you play EVO, the more reward you can get, so it’s more up to you than us to decide how you live the EVO experience.”

The third Assetto Corsa driving simulation will be released for PC on 16th January 2025, mere weeks away.

But, this will be in a work-in-progress ‘early access’ form, ahead of future updates and console versions. The Eifel map itself is not expected until a tentative ‘summer 2025’ release window.
