What to expect from Gran Turismo 7’s next update

Five new cars will be added to Gran Turismo 7 before the end of September, from new electric concepts to classic off-roaders – here’s what to expect.

Gran Turismo 7 September 20205 update five cars
  • Five new cars will be added to Gran Turismo 7, likely on 25th September 2025
  • The news follows the recent Gran Turismo World Series competition round
  • Classic Toyota Land Cruiser, fast Hyundai saloon and Opel concept part of the roster

The next Gran Turismo 7 update will be a bumper edition. Following the Berlin round of the Gran Turismo World Series event – where Jose Serrano and Kylian Drumont won, and a new partnership with Dunlop was confirmed – Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi has taken to social media.

His latest post shows an image of five shady cars, attached to the caption “Update coming next week”.

But what are the five new cars for the game? We think we have the answers below…

Hyundai Elantra N

While Gran Turismo 7 has the electric Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, it is curiously lacking in petrol-powered N vehicles – instead, recently focused on the Korean company’s premium Genesis brand more.

However, this looks to be the manufacturer’s debut combustion N model, with the Elantra. But which one?

Well, all Elantra Ns are a compact-to-mid-size saloon, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive. But there is manual or automatic and then, in 2023, there was a facelifted model. This year, a TCR special edition was also added, with bigger brakes and uprated aero.

Toyota Land Cruiser

Following the likes of a Jeep Willys and the Mercedes Unimog comes a Toyota Land Cruiser, which seems a bit odd for a racing game. Except, Gran Turismo 7 consistently adds vehicles that are important to the history of the car. And the Land Cruiser is one of the preeminent off-road vehicles, used by hobists and government agencies alike.

Known for dependability and capability, it won’t be quick, but we suspect there will be some cool GT Auto add-ons and livery creations. This appears to be a two-door FJ40 generation.

Opel Corsa GSE Vision GT

Another Vision Gran Turismo car, a concept created by a real-world manufacturer to hint at future designs via the medium of Gran Turismo games, this electric hot hatch features active aero, dollops of power and a look at what a future Corsa could look like. Minus the speed and wings, naturally…

Toyota RAV4

Sign. Well, at least it may “complete the set”. Recently, the game has received the C-HR, Mazda CX-30, Nissan Qashqai, and perhaps more pertinently, the Honda CR-V.

So, that car’s chief rival is the RAV4, and it’s one of the best-selling cars across the globe. This looks to be the fifth-generation instalment, which is about to be replaced in the real world with a sixth.

But it could also be a hybrid, and that may limit any tuning options, sadly.

Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster ND special edition

Wait… the Mazda MX-5 (ND generation) is already in Gran Turismo 7. There’s even a racing model.

But this is definitely another, but it has extra aero flicks, with a clear front splitter, extended rear bumper and distinctive spoiler. Smells like a JDM-spec special edition to us.
