Join us as we take a look at how the Traxion team got on in the opening round of the 750 Motor Club’s 2022 Club Enduro Championship at Donington Park GP.
The Traxion-liveried Lotus Elise S2 and Mazda MX-5 of the TWP Racing team consists of Lotus drivers Steve Brockington and Reece Lycett, with Nick Dougill paired up with our very own John Munro in the MX-5.
Club Enduro races are normally two or three hours in length, requiring a mandatory pit stop and driver change. So, teamwork is key. Luckily, the drivers are ably backed up by a squad of keen students from Wrexham Glyndŵr University. The students use this exceptional opportunity in the motorsport industry to enhance their vocational experience, providing them with vital skills for the future.
Hopes were high for the season opener, as both cars have shown good pace in previous campaigns. But, thanks to Covid restrictions, the students have not been able to access the cars as much as hoped, so track time is vital.
Thanks to a Traxion community vote, the cars were nicknamed ‘Rick’ and ‘Astley’, mainly in reference to John Munro’s favourite recording artist (citation needed). John is a former Scottish Sprint Champion and also won the 2016 MaX 5 Racing Championship, so he knows how to drive fast in the real world and in sims.
So, Astley is in safe hands then.
The question is, how well did he and the Traxion TWP Racing team fare at Donington?
