WATCH: Fulfilling a Sim Racing dream | The 1971 Nürburgring experience

Last week, Reiza Studios announced that their long-awaited recreation of the historic 1971 Nürburgring course was nearly completed, adding the track to Automobilista 2 as a release candidate over the weekend for those with the Nürburgring Track Pack DLC.

Of course, we had to give it a go. We’ve strapped John Munro in to the sim, equipped with VR, for a fully-immersive experience today around the historic layout. John is taking on the historic Nürburgring’s Gesamtstrecke, the full course, but it isn’t the Grand Prix layout down there on the south end…

If the big, northern section of the course is the Nordschleife, or “North-loop”, then this is why this section used to be called the Südschleife, or “South-loop”. This part of the course no longer exists, but thanks to Reiza and their work, we are able to experience it once more on the AMS2 platform.

John is taking the BMW M1 Procar around the full course, and while this car wasn’t yet available in 1971 (releasing initially in 1978), it may be perfectly suited for the twists and turns of yesteryear.

How does this track stack up? Watch and see as John gives you a full tour around the Nürburgring as it was back in 1971.
