Ferrari released the first round of a new Blindfold Challenge series on Thursday. Well, it’s not what you might think, unless you know at Traxion that we’re talking about sim racing and not a real car. The new video series falls under the Ferrari Esports Series banner as a promotional piece for the series.
What better way to kick off the series than with Formula 1 Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in the hot seats. Charles was the first to go at it with Two-Time F1 Esports Series World Champion Brendon Leigh coaching him around the track on Assetto Corsa, the same sim used in the Ferrari Esports Series.
With Charles on the simulator and the new-for-2021 Ferrari Esports driver Brendon over his shoulder, the goal is to make a full trip around the Imola circuit as fast as possible without incident.
Charles has absolutely no idea where on track he is and Brendon is just doing his best here to navigate for him. Carlos might be poking fun now, but he forgets that he’s up next time. The Virtual World Champion thankfully won’t have to deal with this when the F1 Esports Pro Championship Series gets underway shortly.
We’ve done our own Blindfold Challenge with Andrew Coley on the Traxion channel, by the way. While we didn’t score points like the Ferrari team did, we did have some fun asking him trivia questions in the second half of the video.
Warning: Do not attempt to drive blindfolded in real life or in any official sim races. Enjoy the video and keep a look out for the next one when Carlos gets a turn at it.
