Anti-grav racer series Flashout was last seen back in 2014, when Flashout 2 was released to PC and mobile devices, coming two years after the original – Flashout 3D.
Now, a decade on from the original’s release, Polish development studio Jujubee is set to bring Flashout 3 to PC, mobile, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch this year.
The game looks like standard anti-grav racing game fare: speedy ships and chaotic combat soundtracked by a thumpingly intense score. Sure, there have been many games of this ilk in the recent past – Gravity Chase, Redout 2, Phaseshift and PACER to name a few – but they lack Flashout 3’s USP: VR compatibility.
Yes, players will be able to don their VR headsets and experience all the gut-wrenching thrills of high-speed racing first-hand. It will be interesting to see how this game mechanic works in practice, but the extra kicker is the game will also be compatible with motion simulators (for PC users only).
How a motion rig will cope with simulating supersonic anti-gravity ships is anyone’s guess, but it should be entertaining nonetheless.
Those looking forward to the latest Flashout can get their fix ahead of its release, thanks to a reworked version of Flashout 3D releasing to Steam on the 31st of August for free. Flashout 3D: Enhanced Edition will include upgraded graphics and a host of undisclosed new features.
Flashout 3 is set to arrive on PC via Steam on the 22nd of September, with PlayStation, Xbox and Switch versions pencilled in for release before the end of the year.
