As hinted earlier this year, anti-gravity racer Flashout 3 has been released for PC, macOS, Linux and Steam Deck today (23rd September 2022).

Featuring VR headset support via OpenXR, Flashout 3 is heavily inspired by the wipE′out″ series of games, where racing and combat combine to create futuristic on-track skirmishes.

Developer Jujubee has implemented a 10-tournament campaign mode, two-player split-screen and a thumpingly synthy soundtrack in its third iteration of the Flashout series. The Polish developer has also made a free demo version of the game, which can be downloaded and played on Steam.

The anti-gravity racing genre has seen several additions in recent times, including Redout 2, Pacer and Gravity Chase, but Flashout 3’s notable selling point is its VR and motion simulator compatibility. The prospect of experiencing the chaos of futuristic, high-speed combat racing first-hand is an alluring one, but it remains to be seen how well it works in practice.

Flashout 3 is available to purchase now for PC, macOS, Steam Deck (Jujubee promises full compatibility, but it is rated ‘Unknown’ currently) and Linux from the GOG and Steam stores. PlayStation, Xbox and Switch versions are scheduled for release before the end of the year.
