A new open beta has begun for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, with both titles set to receive a few content and quality-of-life updates.
As ever, to opt-in to either game’s open beta, right-click ATS or ETS 2’s icon in your Steam Library, select ‘Properties’, ‘Betas’ and then the ‘1.53’ option.
We run through the major upgrades players can experience below.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 v1.53 Open Beta features
Germany rework
The cities of Munich, Mannheim, Leipzig, Dresden and Berlin have been completely rebuilt from the ground up, according to developer SCS Software. Roads, landmarks and infrastructure have all been given a spruce-up and will arrive as a free update when v1.53 finally goes live.
Volvo FH Series 4 Rework
The Volvo FH Series 4 truck has received a rebuild. Using up-to-date CAD data, the Volvo is getting a cabin and exterior refresh, with various interior trims freely selectable with updated texture.
The Volvo FH Tuning Pack DLC also sees new front and rear fenders, bumpers, roof deflectors, and other items added.
Quality-of-life improvements
In general times, players will now be able to see which settings they previously used when adjusting in-game parameters, making fine-tuning much easier.
Auto camera centring is another new addition, with players able to choose how quickly and smoothly the in-game camera returns to its normal, central position after being moved.
American Truck Simulator v1.53 Open Beta features
California Rework
The fourth phase of ATS’ California Rework Project appears in the game’s v1.53 Open Beta, with the cities of Bakersfield, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Mojave, Barstow, Indio, Blythe, Los Angeles, San Diego and El Centro all set to be added, alongside updated visuals.
More dynamic cargo loading options
Initially limited to just the Arkansas DLC, log unloading and loading animations have now been released into the wider American landscape, providing a little more immersion when performing timber deliveries.
Sliding tandems
Some trailers will feature slideable axles to enable the even distribution of loads, an improvement over the fixed forward or fixed rear positions available previously.
In the name of realism, players risk in-game fines if they exceed stringent weight limits at California weigh stations, so distributing weight correctly will be ultra important.
Quality-of-life improvements
ATS features the same camera and options menu improvements as ETS 2 above, but will also see the latest generation of Freightliner Cascadia added to the game’s Driving Academy feature.
As the v1.53 Open Beta is a testing phase for both ATS and ETS 2, players are encouraged to report any bugs on this forum.
