Stylised isometric racing sim Circuit Superstars continues its impressive form as developer Original Fire Games announces Sprint Car racing as part of the game’s ‘Hot Ride Summer Patch’.

Originally scheduled for Q2 2022, the game’s Summer patch had been delayed by an unknown ‘technical blocker’ during development. The update was set to include a Nintendo Switch release as well as two new tracks, an expanded Grand Prix mode, ranked Time Trials and a new category of car.

As revealed on Twitter by the Circuit Superstars (CS) team today (11th August 2022), Sprint Cars are coming to the cutesy racing sim on the 16th of August. The Twitter teaser also reveals footage of one of the new tracks: Poke Bowl. Poke Bowl is a dirt oval ideally suited to Sprint Car racing, mimicking the World of Outlaws motorsport series in the USA.

Sprint Cars are massively powerful, V8-engined stock cars with elaborate aerodynamics to help keep them on-track at speeds of up to – and often over – 170mph. Poke Bowl will join fellow oval tracks Bullseye Speedway and Speedopolis in-game (albeit these are tarmac), but with a Sprint Car on the way, does this mean we can expect more dirt oval layouts to come?

The teaser also mentions CS’ classic Copperwood venue – does this mean there’s another layout coming in the Summer Patch? It will also be interesting to see if Poke Bowl’s track surface dynamically degrades during a race weekend. At real-wold Sprint Car events, for example, a clean racing line forms as more cars pass through, with discarded dirt forming a slippery outside line. Will CS have a similar feature?

As fans of CS – in our review we described it as a “unique experience that showcases the very essence of motor racing” – we cannot wait to see what else the Hot Ride Summer Patch brings.

Are you looking forward to drifting the new Sprint Car in Circuit Superstars? Will the game find an ideal home on Switch? Let us know in the comments below.
