WATCH: The best dirt oval game ever? | World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars 2002

Back in the early 2000s, it was just about at that point in time and history that many avid fans remember a ton of racing video games so fondly. Even for dirt oval racing fans, Ratbag Games had brought the World of Outlaws to life with their 2002 release of World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars 2002.

Since then, there haven’t been many World of Outlaws standalone titles. The ones that did come out weren’t great. In reality, the only current way to get your fill of World of Outlaws is to sign up with iRacing and purchase their World of Outlaws content, such as the 410 Sprint Car and some of the tracks on the schedule.

Recently, iRacing and Monster Games announced an upcoming World of Outlaws console game that will launch later in 2022. Our Ross McGregor decided that now would be a great time to take a look back at what could arguably be considered the best dirt oval racing game of all time.

Sure, it wasn’t the perfect game, but it was pretty good for its time. The 2002 game featured an extensive career mode, decent dirt and car physics, and a fairly fun local multiplayer aspect. We can only hope that the upcoming iRacing and Monster Games effort will take this title as inspiration for their future titles.
