One of the most popular, yet somehow often overlooked, open-world driving games, The Crew 2, will continue to receive new content throughout the year, and as an added bonus, will receive performance updates on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Created by Ubisoft Ivory Tower, The Crew 2 launched in June 2018, so this year marks its fourth anniversary and fifth year of additional content.
New-generation console upgrades
For those playing The Crew 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the existing game will run at 60 frames per second as of July 2022.
This is something that fans have been requesting for some time, with the game running at 30fps at present on console hardware.
It’s not clear if this is a new native version of the release, or the existing PS4 and Xbox One version running at a higher frame rate, but either way, this is a positive step.
Visual improves for all platform
Alongside the new hike in frames for the contemporary consoles, all platforms – so PC, PS4 and Xbox One, plus PS5 and Xbox Series X|S – will receive fresh skies at some point this year.
The way the lighting, clouds and visual effects are displayed looks to be more vivid, with this affecting the surrounding environments.
During the announcement, target footage showed richer sunsets over a glistening Porsche 911.
Vehicle handling improvements
It’s easy to forget that Te Crew 2 has such a diverse set of vehicles all sharing the same technology. From hatchbacks to hypercars, there are even boats, motorcycles and planes.
One of the key criticism for the open-world racer has long been the car handling performance. While not turning into a simulator, the performance of newer car models is subtly different to cars that have been included since launch.
Throughout 2022 the development team will now go through all vehicles and harmonise their handling to hopefully feel more cohesive.
MotorFlix Season 5, Episode 1 launches soon
Before the visual upgrades, Season 5 Episode 1 will arrive for all players.
Thanks to MotorFlix, large expansions arrive for free in The Crew 2 and include new vehicles, challenges, modes and cosmetic items. There is then an optional premium tier called MotorPass.
A brief teaser has been shown, with the theme being ‘American Legends’. Let’s hope the vehicles included are from the USA.
It releases on the 16th March 2022 and we hope to have further details soon.
Year Five content
Alongside this latest Motorflix episode and the graphical improvements, Ubisoft has also revealed that a fifth year of new content will be created for The Crew 2.
‘Year 5’ begins in July 2022 with the first of three new seasons. Typically, each ‘Season’ in Motorflix, historically anyway, has included two ‘Episodes’.
“New cars, new events, new rewards, new competitions and new improvements,” explained the studio’s Head of Marketing, Delphine Dosset.
We’ll be covering all new updates and quality of life features added to The Crew 2 throughout the year, so stay tuned and let us know in the comments below if this piques your interest.
