Trak Racer purchased by Fanatec’s owners, Corsair

Corsair has purchased Trak Racer. It’s a significant move for the US-based gaming equipment giant, as it welcomes the Australian company into its sim racing portfolio alongside Fanatec.

The equipment and accessory manufacturer was founded by Matt Sten in 2008, and along the way expanded its range of cockpits to seats, wheel stands, and at one point, prototype wheel bases.

One of its signature products was the TRX cockpit, which can change from a formula-style seating position to a more upright GT orientation without the need for tools. It is also an official product of the Alpine Racing Formula 1 team.

At the SimRacing Expo Charlotte, earlier this year, Sten was on hand to showcase numerous world unveils, from Porsche, Aston Martin F1 and Hot Wheels branded cockpits, to a truck seat, and even a motorcycle sim setup for home use. The latter, a partnership with RevZED, was undoubtedly the star of the show, generating significant interest.

“Trak Racer joins Corsair’s portfolio of brands as a complement to Fanatec, the leading name in sim racing hardware,” said the company.

It purchased the German wheel, pedal and equipment manufacturer in 2024 in controversial circumstances. It followed a long gestation period for the deal, in which company founder Jackermeier was cut out of the deal.

Corsair’s statement makes a clear distinction between the two brands, with Fanatec focused on electronics and Trak Racer on the “physical simulator”, including flight (it has an Airbus-branded cockpit on the way).

Quite where that leaves Fanatec’s existing cockpit range and Trak Racer’s plans for electronics (it has an Alpine F1 wheel in development) is unclear.

“Trak Racer meaningfully expands Fanatec’s sim racing lineup, bringing an extensive cockpit and accessories portfolio and a passionate, loyal community that we’re excited to welcome to the Fanatec family,” said Thi La, Chief Executive Officer of Corsair.

“Joining Corsair and Fanatec gives Trak Racer the platform to reach far more sim racing enthusiasts faster than we could on our own,” said Matt Sten, founder of Trak Racer, who has joined Corsair as Chief Technology Officer for Sim Solutions.

“Corsair’s global distribution and retail infrastructure, paired with Fanatec’s engineering strength and product portfolio, will let us bring Trak Racer products to a much larger audience while staying true to the community that helped build this brand.”

“For existing Trak Racer customers, it’s business as usual. Your products, warranties, customer support, and commitment from the Trak Racer team remain in place,” Sten further clarified to Traxion.
