After months in Early Access, Genki has announced the release date and pricing details for Tokyo Xtreme Racer.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer’s reboot launched in Steam Early Access in January. Originally, the full version was planned for around May, only to be delayed to September.
Now, Genki has announced that the full release of Tokyo Xtreme Racer is set to launch on Steam on 25th September. The full release will cost $49.99, up from $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 for the Early Access version. UK pricing is yet to be confirmed, but a similar increase seems likely. Those who already own the Early Access version will get the full release at no extra cost.
“Thank you very much to all the players and fans for all the feedback and requests during the Early Access period,” Genki wrote in a producer letter shared on social media. “The development team is excited to announce that Tokyo Xtreme Racer is now ready for its full release.

“Throughout the Early Access period, we’ve received an incredible amount of feedback and requests from players around the world. Your voices have been instrumental in shaping the game, and we are deeply grateful for your support.”
The full version will feature new cars, including the long-awaited return of Honda and models, including the Nissan GT-R R35, Lexus LC500 and Toyota GR Supra teased over the last few weeks. Genki has also hinted at adding Western manufacturers in future updates after car brands like Ford and Chevrolet featured in past games.
Aside from new cars, the full release will include new car parts, a new story chapter and new rivals to race. Recent updates have added a slew of new features, including a photo mode, more customisation options and an oil and water temperature mechanic.
Online leaderboards delayed “due to insufficient cheat prevention measures.”
However, several planned features won’t be ready for the full release, with Genki opting to “prioritise additional game volume, such as additional story content.”
Among the delayed features are replays. “We sincerely apologise to everyone who was looking forward to this feature,” Genki wrote. The developer says it will “do our best to add the feature, polished and ready in future game updates.”

After “careful consideration,” online leaderboards have also been postponed “due to insufficient cheat prevention measures.”
Genki adds that “introducing the feature without being able to provide a fair playing field for all players” would “negatively impact the player experience.”
“The passion, feedback and support from the fans have been invaluable to the development team,” Genki wrote, thanking fans. “We are very excited to finally deliver the complete experience and hope everyone will have a great time playing Tokyo Xtreme Racer.”
The release timing coincides with the Tokyo Game Show, where a Tokyo Xtreme Racer demo will be playable between 25th and 28th September.
A throwback to the original games, Tokyo Xtreme Racer sees you cruising Tokyo’s Shuto Expressway, challenging rivals you encounter on the highway to head-to-head duels. The Early Access version was well received,
With the full release set for 25th September on PC, it remains to be seen if Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be ported to consoles. Genki has yet to commit, saying in February that a console release is “yet to be determined.”
