Tokyo Xtreme Racer return confirms Mazda RX-7, hints at GR86

Following the recent unveilings of the MkIV Toyota Supra and Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34), the upcoming reboot of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series has now unveiled the Mazda RX-7.

The diminutive two-door sports car features a rotary engine, and the model displayed in-game is the later, facelifted, Series 8 FD derivative.

Following outings for Sega’s Dreamcast and PlayStation 2, Genki’s street racing series has been on a hiatus.

It will return in 2025, currently slated for a PC launch via Steam. It will see players drive around a closed-off Tokyo, although gameplay footage is presently absent.

Alongside the car reveals and static shots of empty Japanese streets, a shadow teaser image has also been published – which Traxion believes to be the Toyota GR86 two-seater boxer-engined sportscar.

This would be the most contemporary vehicle announced to date, when the expected confirmation is due seven days from now.
