Genki’s upcoming reboot of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer franchise has another teaser trailer and it intriguingly reveals a host of car customisation options.

Featuring iconic JDM cars from Toyota, Subaru, Nissan and Mazda, Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be the first entry in the series since 2007’s Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 (known as Kaido Racer 2 in PAL territories).

Set for a 2025 Steam release, gameplay details for TXR are scant, but thanks to hints and drip-fed information from Genki we can surmise it will heavily feature the type of street racing made famous by Japan’s underground ‘Mid Night Club’ of clandestine drivers.

A new trailer, however, will delight fans as it confirms that cars can be customised in TXR, with players being able to fit new wings, splitters, bonnets, bumpers, wheels, exhausts and outlandish paint jobs.

Harking back to an era when car modding was de rigeur and featured heavily in games like Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition, Juiced and Auto Modellista, TXR is likely to find a huge modern audience judging from its early hype.
