Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s Season 5 hit with launch issues

HDR, PC performance and Solar Pass bugs have arrived alongside a significant game update. With the next update originally slated for December, the hope is another update will be in the works.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s Season 5 hit with launch issues

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s Season 5 launch, for some players, hasn’t gone quite to plan.

Launching today (29th October 2020) as a free patch, several key improvements and additions have been made – these include taxi missions, online poker in the casino, in-game economy changes, the ability to sell cars and even changes to environment detail.

It’s a comprehensive change, which has also sadly brought about a litany of bugs.

Those on PC with AMD 9000 series graphics cards are reporting crashes, while those who enable HDR are witnessing a ‘white out’ with required detail missing. According to an official statement by the game’s Community Manager, Alex VII, on both Discord and Reddit, some players are reporting Solar Pass errors where prizes are not being paid out.

“Following the news on the Season 5 release, I want to make a statement,” reads the post.

“There are a lot of crash issues surrounding those on AMD 9000 series cards (and others I think?), HDR not working on all platforms (of course console users will use this the most), and Solar Pass rewards not being given. There’s more reports as well I’m sure. We have also disabled the ability to use Solar Pass Gold/Silver tokens for now as we fix an issue with them.

“The current official update delivery schedule is December for the Update 1, and early 2026 for Update 2. That said, I do not think it is in our best interest to release a monetisation store with the game in this state, nor have players wait months to play what is once the most awaited season for Season 5.

“It’s the end of the day so I can’t bring any official word yet, but I think we have to work on an update in between this December update and now. I will communicate the next steps officially when I have more information; hopefully later this week or by the end of next week at the latest.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown October 2025 statement

For those who can enjoy Season 5, we hope you find the update great, and for those who cannot, we apologise for not meeting your standards. We will continue to work on our polish practices through the next Seasons; one of the reasons we need more months for Season 5.”

This last sentence is pertinent, as yesterday, the launch of Season 6 was moved from a January 2026 release window to a March estimate.

Earlier this year, the KT Racing development team committed to at least one more year of notable updates, with the roadmap stretching to July 2026 when being able to buy real estate is expected.

Ahead of then, ‘mid-season’ updates were slated for Season 5, the first of which is set to add three variations of existing cars, plus a new in-game store – which is perhaps what “I do not think it is in our best interest to release a monetisation store with the game in this state” section of today’s statement refers to.

A second update is to add performance optimisation, specifically frame rate stability, for the game across all platforms.

Hopefully, we hear more definitive plans for addressing the Season 5 launch update issues soon, and as Alex VII suspects, before the scheduled December update. We will update this story once a further statement has been issued.
