Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s Ibiza expansion is coming sooner than expected

Nacon and KT Racing have announced a release date for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s upcoming Ibiza expansion.

First announced in August, the free map expansion will launch on 11^th December as part of Season 2. As a result, Season 1 rewards progress will end on 10^th December, giving players a few weeks to claim the Audi RS E-tron GT prize car.

After the troubled launch and subsequent patches, we were expecting the expansion to be delayed. Instead, it’s arriving nearly two weeks earlier than expected after originally set for a 24^th December release.

Faithfully reproduced in a 1:1 scale, the expansion sees players revisit Ibiza Town from Test Drive Unlimited 2 and explore Evissa’s surrounding areas, with the map unlocked at reputation level 12 and clan level 10.

Season 2 will also introduce a new character “responsible for the Streets and Sharps competition” and a new dealership.

In addition, Season 2 will add 20 new clan levels bringing the total to 70, along with a new Solar Pass with 25 new reward levels, including two new models and five “reimagined” models known as ‘Selene Editions.’ These will be modified versions of existing cars in the game.

Solar Crown has had an exceptionally troubled launch, with the online-focused open-world online racer plagued with connection, graphics and performance issues when it launched in September, leading to several patch updates.

With players who paid a premium for the Gold Edition unable to access the game due to server issues, KT Racing and Nacon announced that players will be rewarded a free car, an ‘Adventurer Edition’ of the 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, and stickers in December as compensation for the inconvenience, but was met with backlash from the community.

Whether the expansion can repair the damage and redeem Solar Crown’s soured reputation remains to be seen.
