In a surprising turn of events, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown developer Kylotonn, under its KT Racing off-shoot, has gone on strike against its parent company Nacon.
The strike action, taken in support of its sister studio Spiders, centres around ‘instability, working conditions, global mismanagement, turnover and recruitment problems, delays in achieving gender equality and parity’, among other issues. That’s quite the rap sheet.
Kylotonn has shown its support for Spiders at a pivotal moment for both itself and Nacon.
The pre-order release window for TDUSC, which has endured a challenging development cycle after its initial reveal way back in 2020, opens on the 5th of September before the game goes on general sale on the 12th of September, leaving little room for Nacon and Kylotonn to manoeuvre.
The Kylotonn statement reads: ‘Management regularly brings up the studios’ supposed independence, but every demand we make gets rejected with the argument that there should be coherence within the Nacon group. Much in the same way, negotiations are hampered under the same pretence.
‘If no improvement in our working conditions is offered because “it would drive other studios within the group to ask for the same”, it stands to reason then that we make those demands together [with Spiders]’.
How the strike action will affect the roll-out of TDUSC remains to be seen, but we’ll be sure to keep our readers up-to-date with any further developments.
