- Street Racer Collection includes bundles the SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy and MS-DOS versions of Ubisoft’s cult kart racer
- PlayStation, Saturn and Amiga versions not included
- Releasing on 27th November on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
The success of Super Mario Kart in the 1990s popularised the kart racing genre, inspiring countless imitators. One such game was Street Racer, developed by Vivid Image and published by Ubisoft.
With an emphasis on combat, it was a cross between Mario Kart and Street Fighter, allowing players to punch nearby opponents. Initially released on the Super Nintendo in 1994, it was ported to a plethora of platforms, including the Mega Drive, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Game Boy, Windows and Amiga.
Every version looked and played differently, with the SNES version boasting sprite-based Mode 7 visuals. Although it didn’t stand the test of time like its Nintendo rival and is largely forgotten, Street Racer received positive reviews upon release, with some publications claiming it was even better than Super Mario Kart.

Over 30 years later, Ubisoft’s cult kart racer is making a surprise return to modern platforms in a new compilation from QUByte Interactive. Set to release on 27th November, Street Racer Collection is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The new collection bundles the SNES, Mega Drive, Game Boy, and MS-DOS versions. Sadly, the PlayStation, Saturn and Amiga versions are not included, so it’s not a definitive collection. Some fans consider the 32-bit Saturn
Across the four games, Street Racer Collection will feature up to 27 tracks, eight cartoony characters with special attacks and five game modes.
In addition to standard practice and championship modes, these include a car Soccer mode that predated Rocket League and a Rumble mode where you knock each other out of an arena. Local multiplayer for up to 4 players is also supported for the SNES, Megadrive and MS-DOS versions.
This is QUByte’s second retro racing compilation following last year’s Top Racer Collection. Incidentally, that compilation is getting a ‘Customs’ DLC pack on 6th November, adding four new cars and customisation options for existing vehicles in the first Top Racer game.
