rFactor 2 looking for online multiplayer ‘Alpha’ testers

The Studio 397-developed sim platform looks to be set for some online upgrades as it enters its 10th year.

A blog post states that the developers are looking for ‘Alpha’ testers to provide feedback on an “all-new competition system” that is said to have been in development for “some months”.

The existing Competition System dates back to a 2020 public beta and allowed for a playlist-like set-up, with a curated number of events running at set times and dates. The splits were determined by qualifying times, but not a ranking or ‘safety’ rating, such as on third-party services like Low Fuel Motorsport.

At the beginning of 2023, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, which used rFactor 2, suffered from platform instability. This led to a statement by Studio 397 where it committed to “rewriting this code over the coming months to ensure a better experience for all players.”

Details are thin on the ground for now about the ‘new online experience’, other than a small group of players are said to be already testing the system in private, and public access is labelled as ‘coming soon’.

This follows the announcement of the Gen3 Formula E car, where the news ended with the following sentiment:

“…we have plenty more content and multiplayer updates which we look forward to bringing to you very soon! We can’t let you in on all of the secrets just yet though…”

For now, alpha registration is open, but spaces are limited, so there’s no guarantee you’ll be selected at this stage.
