A brand-new single-seater car is coming to PC-based racing simulator rFactor 2, and to celebrate, a fresh esports championship will begin with a prize pool worth over $25,000. It will also be broadcast live on Traxion.GG’s YouTube and Facebook feeds.
The Formula Series will be split into two championships: Formula Pro Series and Formula Challenge Series, akin to GT Pro Series and GT Challenge Series. The Formula Challenge series will see drivers competing for a chance to be in the Formula Pro Series in Season 2.
The first race for this new esports event and rFactor 2 vehicle will be the opening Formula Pro Series race on the 19th July 2021 at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. This is followed by the first Formula Challenge Series race at the same venue on the 23rd July 2021 and each series continues on alternate Mondays across six rounds.
The Formula Pro Series will feature the best teams in sim racing, with each team fielding two drivers. There are limited slots available for esports teams, and you can apply via an online form.
Formula Challenge entries will be available to all via the in-game Competition System and then broken down into several splits for the season opener. Throughout the season drivers will be able to move up and down between the splits.
We’ve populated the full race calendars and timing below, but we’re sure you’re also interested in the brand-new car. The full reveal will be later in the year closer to the esports events start dates, but for now, we do have several interesting details.
New from the ground-up, it features a naturally aspirated engine with an 18,000rpm redline, 800hp and weighs just 680kg. Add in up to 2,400kg of downforce, and performance is set to be scintillating. The full specifications are below.
The new Formula Series Car and the two esports championships using the vehicle are set to be exciting events and we can’t wait to see it in action soon – plus watch it all live, right here.
