First announced in 2021, Victory Heat Rally, a retro-inspired arcade racer developed by indie Skydevilpalm, raced onto PC and mobile platforms in October.

A Nintendo Switch version was also planned but delayed until later this year due to “unforeseen difficulties with development. “

Mercifully, we now have a release date, with publisher Playtonic Games confirming that Victory Heat Rally will skid onto Nintendo Switch on 12th December.

Inspired by old-school Sega Super Scaler arcade games like 1988’s Power Drift, Victory Heat Rally boasts a vibrant pixel art style, an upbeat soundtrack, 12 distinct drivers and “dozens of stages” across 12 colourful environments.

There’s an emphasis on sliding around corners by holding a dedicated drift button, which fills your boost bar up to three levels. The charming Choro-Q-style cars can be customised with unlockable paint jobs, wheels and tyres.

Outside of the extensive single-player championship, Victory Heat Rally features an ‘Arcade Grand Prix’ mode for when you need a quick fix, a time trial mode and split-screen multiplayer for up to four players.

While we had a few issues with the PC version, namely the lack of depth to hold your attention, the casual racer should be a great fit for Nintendo’s portable console, providing it runs smoothly.
