Physical media fans rejoice: indie retro-racer Slipstream is getting a limited physical release for PS5 and Nintendo Switch courtesy of Limited Run Games.
Preorders for the standard and deluxe editions are live on Limited Run Games, but only for a limited time until Sunday 19th January at 11:59 pm EST / Monday 20th January at 04:59 am GMT. A physical version of the Xbox version is not available.
The standard edition will set you back $34.99 and the deluxe edition costs $79.99 plus shipping and import taxes if ordering outside the US. Orders are expected to start shipping between May 1st and 31st, 2025.
Although Limited Run Games is based in the US, Slipstream’s physical release is region free.
Along with a physical copy of the game, the deluxe edition includes the following extras:
- Deluxe plastic case
- Soundtrack
- 12” x 16” double-sided poster
- Acrylic standee
- Enamel keychain
We particularly like the Mega Drive-style plastic case housing the extras.
Initially released for PC in 2018 before being ported to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch in 2022, Slipstream is the work of solo Brazilian indie developer Sandro Luiz de Paula, also known as Ansdor.
Inspired by retro racers from the 1980s and early 1990s, Slipstream uses a custom graphics engine replicating Sega’s super scaler technology to create a pseudo-3D effect.
Players race across exotic locations including cities, deserts and mountain roads, drifting and slipstreaming opponents to get a speed boost. A snythwave and jazz soundtrack accentuates the retro style.
Coinciding with the native PS5 release, last year’s ‘Blue Hour’ expansion added five new locations in a separate campaign, along with five new cars and three extra songs in a free update. This will be included in the Limited Run Games release.
Slipstream isn’t the only retro-inspired racer getting the Limited Run treatment, with Victory Heat Rally’s physical release set to launch in June next year on Nintendo Switch. Preorders for Victory Heat Rally’s Limited Run release are live until 5th January.
