Rennsport R1 Spring ’26: MOUZ survive scare, makes finals

Rennsport R1 Spring ’26: MOUZ survive scare, makes finals

3 minute read

By Ewan O'Leary

R1 stalwart MOUZ has squeezed into the final six after holding off two Rennsport Community teams in the final regular season rounds of Rennsport R1. Despite Max Benecke having to take part in Round 4 alone, it still held on by 10 points at Laguna Seca and Fuji.

Verstappen Sim Racing and Porsche Coanda were once again placed in the same group, also the set containing MOUZ. Enzo Bonito took pole in a VSR 1-2, and escaped early in the first race as a rare Josh Rogers spin put Porsche Coanda out of sorts.

It also moved Benecke up to third, where he would finish in race one. In the other group, containing both community teams threatening MOUZ, Jack Keithley took the first pole as TC Esports began to find its feet again. Behind him on lap one, there was a huge crash on the front straight, taking out Kodi Nikola Latkovski from MOUZ’s closest challenging team.

He fought back to finish in seventh, while teammate Cristian Giannotta held onto third, keeping the fight alive coming into Fuji. Kevin Siggy took pole in Group A, while Benecke was down in fifth.

Soon, though, with a fantastic start diving down the inside into the big braking zone of turn one on the opening lap, the German was in second. Bonito would come back past a lap later, but it would be another third-place finish for MOUZ, giving the community teams a tall order to take their qualification spot off them.

Caique Oliveira took pole for the final regular season race of the season, and it would be into turn one on the opening lap where MOUZ’s fate would be decided. And it was decided favourably for them, as Gianotta spun at turn one, giving the Rennsport Community team far too much to do in the final laps.

And so MOUZ would make it, alongside Verstappen Sim Racing, BS+ Competition, TC Esports, Porsche Coanda, and the Rennsport Grandmaster Team, into the final stage of the competition next week. It will consist of two phases, with both of R1’s signature formats coming back.

Firstly, Hero mode makes its return, allowing one of the two drivers per team to have double points during each race. Both drivers have to use it twice over the four races, setting the points for the second stage.

The team with the most points will be reset to 100, with the other five teams scaled back based on their points from the previous phase. From there, Finalist Mode returns, where any team that reaches 160 points will have to win a race to be crowned champions.

R1’s most popular format will return then, as one of those six teams will be crowned R1 champions in 2026.
