Project Motor Racing showcases wet weather, new cars and tracks in Gamescom trailer

Ahead of its November launch, a grandiose Project Motor Racing trailer released for Gamescom has provided a first look at wet weather alongside previously unannounced cars and circuits for the upcoming racing simulator.

Showcased in the trailer for the first time, Project Motor Racing’s dynamic weather conditions will bring “adaptive racing lines with authentic drying as part of its ‘True2Track’ system, along with 24-hour day and night cycles for every circuit.

It promises to be an evolution of the dynamic weather system seen in the Project CARS games, which were developed by former Slightly Mad Studios staff who are now helming Project Motor Racing at Straight4 Studios. 

Several previously unseen locations, including Spa, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Monza, Donington Park, Mount Panorama (Bathurst), are also shown in the trailer, with each location meticulously laser-scanned. In total, Project Motor Racing will launch with 28 layouts (an increase from the previously unveiled 27) across 18 locations.

Alongside the new locations and wet weather, the trailer confirms that Porsche will join Project Motor Racing’s car roster. From the 2023 Porsche 963 to the Le Mans-winning 1970 917K, Porsche’s racing history is well-represented, alongside models like the 911 GT3 R 992, 911 GT1-98 and 962C.

These are joined by three more newly confirmed cars: the 2025 Aston Martin Valkyrie, the Aston Martin AMR Vantage GT3 and the 2024 Ford Mustang GT4. These new cars also confirm that GT1 and Group C racing classes will feature in the game. Nine classes have been confirmed so far, with more yet to be announced.

With a few months left until its release, development appears to be progressing nicely. The visuals look noticeably more polished than previous builds, with stunning weather effects. If the rousing orchestral soundtrack sounds familiar, it’s a remixed version of Project CARS’ menu music.

Gamescom visitors can take the latest build of Project Motor Racing for a test drive this week. Located in hall six on stand B061 alongside the 2002 Le Mans-winning Audi R8 on display, the build is said to be an “updated and more polished version.”

Project Motor Racing launches on 25^th November for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you can’t make Gamescom, selected players can get an early look at the new racing simulator by signing up to the Factory Driver Programme.
