Project Motor Racing limits offline AI opponent numbers on PS5, Xbox Series XS

When Project Motor Racing launches tomorrow, 25th November, single-player races on PC will featureup to 32 cars on track, allowing players to race against up to 31 AI opponents. Console versions, however, are limited to 16 cars on the grid – half the number on PC.

Conversely, up to 32 players can race online on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S , depending on the track, with Endurance Hall races limited to 16 vehicles.

“We’re trying for consoles,” Straight4 Studios CEO Ian Bell said in response to a user on X, formerly Twitter, asking if updates will increase the number of AI opponents on consoles.

“If we can somehow wedge the full PC physics in with more AI cars. We won’t compromise the player physics to get 32 AI cars.”

According to Bell, the console games “run the same code” and share the “full physics” of the PC version. To keep the frame rate optimised at 60fps, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S games are targeting a 1440p resolution.

“We didn’t target 4k for consoles,” Bell wrote on X. “We chose to optimise at 1440p and keep the full physics of the PC on console. I think we made the right choice.”

Project Motor Racing launches on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 25th November, 2025. Two editions are available at launch, with the Year 1 Bundle including a season pass.

At launch, the new sim racing game features over 70 thoroughbred race cars from legendary Group Cs to modern LMPhs, along with 28 track layouts.
