New single-seater for iRacing following team-up with Dallara

Online simulation platform iRacing today announced a collaboration with chassis builder Dallara. This partnership has given birth to the Dallara iR-01 – a new open-wheel single-seater car that will be coming to the platform this month.

The vehicle will be available to purchase and race at the start of 2021 Season 1 (which actually starts in December 2020). It will slot into the official Formula iR Series and will eventually have it’s own World Championship later in 2021.

The car looks like a verifiable beast. It features a 3.0 litre V10 producing 900bhp whilst weighing only 600 kilos. That’s a pretty incredible power-to-weight ratio so expect this car to be a challenge to drive. It also has “limited electronics” and a “fully decoupled suspension.

“With a clean sheet in front of us, we challenged ourselves to build the ultimate open-wheel racecar to bring to our users. The result is an exciting blend of the past, present, and future of grand prix racing that is thrilling to drive and produces incredible on-track battles.” – Steve Myers, iRacing executive producer

It’s a new approach from iRacing to include fantasy and fictional content. Usually the platform focuses on and highlights its realism so it’s a slight departure from the usual. Just last week, iRacing teased the “Coca Cola Superspeedway”.

As with almost all cars on the iRacing service, there is a cost to purchase this car (in addition to the monthly fee). It will be available for $11.95 when it’s released.
