RoadCraft was a pleasant surprise when it was first unveiled in 2024. Saber Interactive’s follow-up to Expeditions: A MudRunner Game appeared to blend the exploration of its previous games (including the uber-popular Snowrunner) with novel construction elements, all backed up by a robust physics model.
Now, a new gameplay trailer delves deeper into RoadCraft’s mechanics, showcasing its ‘groundbreaking simulation of heavy machinery’.
And you’ll need to wield all this heavy plant (totalling 40+ vehicles) to achieve your goal of restoring natural disaster zones, getting behind the wheel of trucks, cranes, 4x4s, tree harvesters and bulldozers, among others.
Using the above vehicles, you can clear up rubble, renew utility pipes and build roads across eight 4km2 maps, with tricky terrain including sand, mud and rocks.
RoadCraft’s in-game economy, where players earn cash to purchase a squad of vehicles to increase their rebuilding efforts, involves setting up AI convoys to quicken the pace of scrap collection and other activities.
Hardcore MudRunner players won’t be left out, however, as the game should still allow freeform exploration, but with more focused and less formulaic goals than the slightly disappointing Expeditions.
The highlight of RoadCraft’s new trailer is perhaps the road building, which looks incredibly fun in action and gets us very excited about the game’s four-player co-op mode… (what could possibly go wrong?!).
Saber also plans to release the Rebuild Expansion DLC sometime in 2025, including two new maps, new vehicles and extra missions and activities.
