Initially released last November, we happen to think Need for Speed Unbound is a return to form for the Need for Speed franchise.
Now, we’ll caveat that with there’s a slow, but deliberate progression curve. Bank and cars are hard work to come by, but this leads to a satisfying payoff further down the line. Just bear that in mind if you test it during the limited-time free weekend.
The promotion is open to anyone with Steam on PC, and is live right now (21st July) until 24th July 2023.
The game has recently started a series of significant post-release updates, with Vol.3 released last month. Alongside the option of unlocking the DMC DeLorean through the completion of a set task, it also features linkups – a form of cooperative multiplayer challenge, which we found to be the most engaging addition yet.
Online drift vents with ghosted rivals and various quality-of-life changes were actions, alongside a Speed Pass with cosmetic items to unlock. Support is set to be continued for the title in the coming months, too.
