Nearly three years ago, we labelled MX vs ATV Legends as “ambitious, but unfinished.”
The open-world quad, SSV and motorcycle racing game was a new instalment in the long-running franchise, created by stalwarts Rainbow Studios.
But something didn’t feel right – specifically the physics and how the tyres interacted with the surface which felt like driving on marble.
Perhaps consequently, initial sales were “below expectations”.
However, the project was not abandoned. Instead, it pivoted to a platform set for continuous evolution and DLC.
Now it seems like the title is in the midst of a resurgence.
“I have to point out I’m glad to see Payday [3] coming back on the top [10] list and I’m even more glad to see Mx vs ATV actually coming back on the top performing titles – well done,” said Lars Wingefors, Co-founder and CEO of Embracer Group, the parent company of the game’s publisher, THQ Nordic.
This was during Embracer’s Q2 financial year presentation in November 2024, in reference to the top 10 best-selling back catalogue releases during that period.
Today, 13th February 2025, the game has repeated that feat in the company’s Q3 results.
“Also glad to see MX vs ATV Legends continues to go from strength to strength,” he said.
“It had, I believe, its best month ever in December [2024].”
Two weeks ago a significant version 3.18 update landed for Legends across all platforms, adding two fresh events to the Lawrence Dog Pound, the ability to run a 16-player online tournament and further revisions to the bike handling.
