Gran Turismo games hit 100 million sales

Across just under 28 years, Sony has announced that its premier racing video games series, Gran Turismo, has sold 100 million units.

The cumulative sales number comes from June (2025) data, so the actual number is larger with Gran Turismo 7 still very much on sale.

To celebrate this milestone, a free ‘Spec III’ update will arrive in December for the current GT game, with two tracks, eight cars and a host of structural changes.

Gran Turismo Sony PlayStation 100 million sales

“As of June 25, 2025, the Gran Turismo series has officially surpassed 100 million units sold worldwide since its debut,” said Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi.

“It is mind-blowing for us creators that the series has sold more than 100 million units.

“The Gran Turismo series would not have reached 100 million units sold in 30 years without everyone’s support, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

What’s not clear is how many copies the aforementioned Gran Turismo 7 has sold – previous comments by Yamauchi explained that user numbers were tracking ahead of its GT Sport predecessor.

The last time total Gran Turismo sales figures were mentioned was in December 2022 as part of PlayStation’s 25-year celebrations. Then, a figure of 90 million was mentioned. GT7 was released in March 2022, so you could deduce that it has easily surpassed the 10 million mark – although GT Sport was still sold through to January 2024.

That game surpassed 9.5 million users in February 2021. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is currently the best-selling game in the series, with over 14 million sales reported, so a rough estimate could see GT7 be nearing that milestone.
