Gran Turismo 7’s next new car, the Caterham Seven, spotted in-game

Ahead of today’s (15th August) Gran Turismo World Series event, recorded at Polyphony Digital’s Tokyo offices, the game’s social media team have published a brief video of the drivers receiving a tour.

Led by Series Producer Kazunori Yamauchi, the clip is filled with obscure Gran Turismo references, such as an old CRT monitor playing one of the original games and model cars on shelves.

These include a Lotus Elise, Panoz Esperante GTR-1 and the headlight from a first-generation (E85) BMW Z4.

Among the paraphernalia is a very deliberate shot of a Caterham Seven Superlight R500.

This will be one of the cars in the next Gran Turismo 7 update, and it’s seen very clearly in-game.

Following the traditional teaser of cloaked cars by Yamauchi last week (Sunday 9th August), it was known that one of these gossamer sports cars would be included; now we know for certain it’s the Superlight R500.

This model was first created in 2008 before production ceased in 2014, with one of its biggest markets being Japan.

Using thinner-gauge aluminium for its panels for a 506kg weight, paired with a 263bhp Ford engine, it has a scarcely believable power-to-weight ratio of 528bhp per ton.

More details about future Gran Turismo 7 updates are expected during today’s World Series round.

This isn’t the first time a social media video filmed in Polyphony’s offices has teased an upcoming car. In May 2025, real-world car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro visited the studio, and the subsequent footage teased the original Fiat Panda, a car he designed and would arrive in Gran Turismo 7 seven months later.

What’s this location?

Towards the end of the video, two monitors are shown, one seemingly depicting a street circuit concrete wall, and another overlooking an industrial riverside area. Neither was instantly recognisable to the Traxion team; let us know your theories in the comments below.

While we await further information about this particular game update, a new Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo has been confirmed for release ‘soon’.
