Autumn Ring and Sugo coming in GT 7’s Spec IV Update
12 new cars arriving across two builds: one in October, one in December
New Family Mode, Shuffle Mode and Online Drift Trials also teased
It’s enough to bring a tear to the eye of Gran Turismo players of a certain age.
As revealed during Sony’s State of Play presentation today (3rd September, 2026), the legendary Autumn Ring is set to return to the series in Gran Turismo 7, with Polyphony Digital set to release a huge Spec IV update later this year.
Intriguingly, it will be released in two parts: the first in October and the second in December. Two tracks were unveiled for the update, with the real-world Sugo circuit also set to make an appearance, with 12 new cars and new game modes also on the way.

Appearing in the very first GT back in 1997 (1998 outside of Japan), Autumn Ring hasn’t been seen in a mainline GT game since GT 6, but that’s set to change very soon.
It’s claimed that the original layout will be failfully recreated, plus an additional new, longer layout will sit alongside it.
Sugo
Sportsland Sugo is set to make its debut in the GT series, with the 2.3-mile-long track regularly hosting real-world Super GT and Super Formula races.
Like Autumn Ring, Sugo is filled with cambered corners and unforgiving run-off areas, making it something of an outlier in modern motorsporgt terms.
Opened in 1975, the track is famous for its final corner bridge (adorned with Dunlop signage for GT 7), and despite its length, the entire Sugo complex represents Japan’s largest motorsport venue, mainly thanks to its karting and motocross facilities (plus a whole host of other leisure activities).
New Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV cars
12 new cars are set to appear across Spec IV’s two parts, with six identifiable during the State of Play trailer. Highlights include the third-gen Honda MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC Si Race Car (last GT 6), the Citroën 2CV and the V10-powered E60 BMW M5.
In typical Polyphony style, there’s also the Honda Stepwgn MPV and two Vision GT cars: the recently revealed Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo and the Xiaomi Vision GT, as debuted at the MWC expo in Barcelona earlier this year.

Online Drift Trials and Shuffle Races
Online Drift Trials will form part of GT 7’s ‘Online Trial’ mode. This will sit alongside the game’s usual Lap Time Challenges, which offer Credits payouts to players in exchange for getting within a percentage of the quickest driver on the leaderboard. It’s thought Drift Trials will work in a similar fashion, but based on scores.
Shuffle Races, however, are a returning feature in the GT series, and were last seen in GT 5. These allowed a lobby host to select a vehicle class, while the game randomly assigned cars to each player of similar performance, helping spice up multiplayer racing.
Family mode and Car Concierge
Polyphony is also set to implement Family Mode, a new way to play the game that’s more accessible to younger family members.
Details are sketchy, but Family Mode looks like an approachable set of driving challenges separate from the main game grind. Experience mode will also debut in October, featuring various driving challenges.
A new Concierge service looks to be a more vital addition, however, making it easier to source and purchase the game’s intermittently available Used and Legend Cars. A new Vintage marketplace is also apparently on the way, offering a specific place for players to buy cars not available in Brand Central.
The game’s level cap will also be increased from 70.
On face value, players receive three concierge request tokens (based on Collector Level) and must wait a set number of days before they can purchase their desired vehicle. Presumably the service has a fee, but it’s unclear at this stage.
Improved Gran Turismo Sophy implementaation and a new, harder Power Pack difficulty setting will also form part of December’s Spec IV offering.
More information on the contents of GT 7’s Spec IV update will be revealed during Round 3 of the Gran Turismo World Series event in Singapore on 3rd October.

Wow, big update indeed. Great to see Autumn Ring back as well but crucially SHUFFLE RACES!! We have been wanting these back since GT6 didn’t feature them. These were a lot of fun and hopefully follow a similar trend. Now if they could just put back track vote as well.
In Curry’s (big electrical chain store in the UK), the original Gran Turismo played on a continuous loop, showing a Nissan Primera bombing around the Autumn Ring. Takes me right back to 1998!
