After an extended wait, it has been finally confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 will support PSVR2 when the headset launches on 22nd February 2023.
“Today, I am excited to announce that one of our most storied franchises will be coming to PSVR2 at launch… Gran Turismo,” said Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment at the Japanese technology giant’s Consumer Electronics Show presentation in Las Vegas.
Gameplay was shown at the Road Atlanta track, on-board the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo. A field of at least 10 additional cars was in action – something that held back 2018’s Gran Turismo Sport on PlayStation 4, limited to just one other opponent when using the original PSVR.
Supported game modes and additional virtual reality features – such as viewing vehicles in a showroom, online racing and Daily Miles accumulation – are yet to be unveiled.
“Through a free upgrade, PSVR2 players will be able to experience the game like never before,” said Ryan.
“There are many things that we have in mind that we cannot talk about yet,” said Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi to Traxion.GG when asked about PSVR2 support in November.
We were close, but not quite there. Sorry.
Popular rhythm game Beat Saber was also announced as in development for PSVR2. Alongside the Gran Turismo 7 update, the action and adventure title Horizon Call of the Mountain will also launch with the device.
PSVR will launch at $549.99 / £529.99 and is currently only available from Sony directly for a ‘launch window’ delivery between 22nd and 28th February.
