Top-down, community-driven, racing game sequel GeneRally 2 is edging ever closer to being able to offer online multiplayer.
With an emphasis on making and sharing customised tracks, the still Early Access title recently held its first network-connected race session.
A total of seven players tested multiple car types and tracks, including large trucks on a diminutive docklands creation. Following this test, a second is due later this week, 27th September 2024 with some changes implemented ahead of then.
The initial races included players from Europe, North America and Australasia in the same lobbies.
With the core functionality complete for multiplayer – something that the 2002 original never truly featured – the next steps are further testing and creating a matching user interface.
“From there [the second test], we will aim to finish the multiplayer UI and then move on to expanding the tests,” said developer Curious Chicken Games.
