Studio 397 has been hard at work refining rFactor 2 and has today (10th August 2023) offered a free update to its sim; including Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustments; a refresh of some classic tracks and all-new liveries from the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain (PCCGB) series.

We’ve outlined all the major changes below.

Porsche Carrera Cup GB 2023 liveries

With selected Carrera Cup Deutschland paint schemes already available to choose in-game for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) car, Porsche fans can now select from this season’s Carrera Cup GB lineup too.

Painted by the talented Stephen Haley of Digital Motor Art, liveries range from the Duckhams car of Adam Smalley to the Rosland Gold-adorned machines of Josh Malin and James Kellett, with the Domino’s Pizza car of Henry Dawes sure to be a popular choice online.

For this weekend’s Carrera Cup GB races at Knockhill, the number #59 car of local driver Ross Wylie is freshly emblazoned with Tunnock’s Tea Cake branding, but players will need to wait for a future update to get behind the wheel of this tasty treat.

rFactor 2 GT3 and GTE Balance of Performance updates

As ever in GT3 and GTE racing – both virtual and real-world – BoP is a huge issue. To ensure more parity among rF2’s GT3 and GTE classes there’s been a significant revision to car balancing, with the Bentley Continental 2020 and Porsche 911 GT3 R models receiving a 10kg weight buff, with the McLaren 720S shedding 5kg.

On the other hand, the Mercedes-AMG gets hit with a 5kg nerf, with most of the other GT3 cars remaining as they were. This arrives after the complete re-working of the class earlier this year.

In GTE, the Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M8 and Corvette C8R all go on a diet, with the Ferrari 488 and Porsche 911 991 RSR both gaining weight.

BTCC cars BoP adjustments

Thanks to a discrepancy between front-wheel and rear-wheel-drive cars, which resulted in rear-drive machines gaining a huge advantage in terms of tyre life in races, Studio 397 has worked on redressing the balance – no doubt music to the ears of those struggling away in BTCC-themed leagues (like us at team Traxion).

These arrive with tweaks to the percentage grip value for AI cars, which increases across the board, alongside brake pressure adjustments. As a result, players should notice more tyre wear over a race distance, perhaps favouring those with more conservative driving styles.

Mills, Toban, NOLA, Atlanta and Loch Drummond updates

Several of rF2’s older tracks enjoy a bit of a spruce-up with the August update too, with Mills Metro Park, Toban Raceway, Loch Drummond, NOLA Motorsports Park and Atlanta Motorsports Park all coming in for an update.

The bulk of the track improvements centre around taking advantage of rF2’s improved visuals, with enhanced lighting and atmospheric settings adding more life to the sim’s legacy tracks.

NOLA receives new replay camera files and updated IndyCar layout signage too, with Toban’s AI track limits adjusted for fairness.
