Here we were thinking that the next downloadable content announcement for rFactor 2 would be more British Touring Car Championship cars and it is in fact a new Porsche.

The 911 GT3 Cup (992) is the current incarnation of the one-make sportscar, the basis of several Carrera Cup championships around the world – culminating in the Formula 1 support Porsche Supercup.

Considering this is often seen as an entry-level racing car, the GT3 Cup does not feature traction control or anti-lock brakes. It has a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine that delivers 510PS at 8,400rpm, for old-school visceral feedback. The shock absorbers are non-adjustable.

Despite the lack of driving aids, turbochargers or hybridisation, there is a contemporary digital driver’s dashboard, a six-speed sequential gearbox, carbon-fibre reinforced plastic body panels to save weight and double-wishbone front suspension.

Owners of rFactor 2 developers Studio 397 supported Rudy van Buren in this season’s Porsche Supercup, the former World’s Fastest Gamer winner and current Red Bull Racing development driver’s real-world livery will be included as part of the car DLC. The Dutch driver is said to have provided feedback for the virtual version.

Another design included is the NAPA Racing-sponsored JTR entry of Hugo Ellis from the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, which in turn is on the support bill for the BTCC. So, there is a touring car connection of sorts after all…

Pricing is yet to be revealed, but the 992 911 GT3 Cup will launch on 21st December, alongside the 2022 BTCC liveries and the Vauxhall Astra BTCC vehicle.
