Gran Turismo 7 was released in March 2022, and as it approaches its third year of live updates, it will receive a demo.
The timing does seem a little odd, but My First Gran Turismo will act not only as a demo but a (somewhat tenuous) callback to the early GT games – it is 30 years since the first PlayStation this month, after all.
Available for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the new Polyphony Digital-created spin-off will feature 18 cars, spanning the ages, that must be unlocked. These include the likes of the Suzuki Jimny, Daihatsu Copen and Lamborghini Countach – typically eclectic.
In the traditional Gran Turismo style, licence test challenges will also be present, across three tiers.
Activities will be across three tracks – Kyoto Driving Park, Deep Forest Raceway, and Trial Mountain Circuit – where three Music Rally and time trial events (with online leaderboards) will reside.
In-game currency seems absent, and while there are ‘achievements’, PlayStation Trophy support is yet to be confirmed. Those on PS5 can use the PlayStation VR2 headset.
Accessible for all ages, skill levels
“his experience holds a special place in my heart, as it pays tribute to the origins of the first Gran Turismo, where players of all generations discovered the joys of driving,” said President of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi.
“Whether it’s introducing kids to the joy of racing for the first time or reigniting a forgotten passion for driving, My First Gran Turismo was designed to be both approachable and immersive, created for everyone, with no limits on age or driving skill level.”
My First Gran Turismo releases 6th December 2024.
