Playstation 5 owners will soon be able to play the first cross-console Forza game, Forza Horizon 5.
This is part of Microsoft’s strategy to widen the Xbox brand name to more than just a singular console device. Streaming services, subscriptions and PC storefronts are all now part of its platform mix.
An element of this push includes publishing first-party games onto multiple platforms, starting with the likes of Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves for PS5 in March and April 2024 respectively.
The American tech giant already owns Minecraft, which is across most contemporary platforms and has released every recent Xbox game for PC alongside its own consoles.

But this spring will mark the first time its mainline tentpole racing franchise releases on anything other than an Xbox or PC – excluding various mobile app spin-offs.
The series began in 2005 with Forza Motorsport on the original Xbox, and in 2012 blossomed into a two-pronged approach – Motorsport covering circuit racing, Horizon open-world.
Horizon 5 was initially released in November 2021 to rave reviews, including ours:
“There’s a sumptuous world, an abundance of shiny automobiles and a seemingly unending stream of tasks to complete,” we said at the time.
“Most importantly though, this is the first Horizon game with engrossing progression and I think that makes it by far the best instalment yet.”

Set in Mexico, it mixes licenced real-world cars with an explorable environment, a plethora of online modes and a morish reward loop of new vehicles, cash, unlocks and customisation items.
A monthly Festival Playlist of timely challenges also includes ‘FOMO’ content, requiring weekly completion to grab the latest cars.
Recently, an ultimate DLC bundle was published, perhaps hinting at the end of premium content – although now, it would make sense if the PS5 version has this bundle included for newcomers, or at least available on the PlayStation Store in one set.
We have also recently hypothesised that a Forza Horizon 6 may be around the corner.
The main development team for the title is Playground Games, with overarching support from Turn 10 Studios, while external outfit Panic Button has been enlisted to help with the PlayStation 5 conversion.
That was the team behind the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch ports of Rocket League, and the native updated version of Forza Horizon 4 for Xbox Series X|S.
When the PS5 version releases in spring, it will feature cross-platform play with Xbox and PC players. A specific release date and price are not yet confirmed.
