Shin’en Multimedia’s Fast racing series has filled the void of a new F-Zero, with Fast Racing Neo on Wii U and Fast RMX on Switch. Announced during today’s (2nd April) Nintendo Direct presentation, Fast RMX is getting a surprise sequel for Switch 2 called Fast Fusion.
A launch title for the original Switch, Fast RMX was an enhanced port of its predecessor, Fast Racing Neo. Fast Fusion, on the hand, appears to be a new entry.
Fast Fusion sees you racing futuristic ships at eye-melting speeds, in what Shin’en Multimedia describes as the “fastest racing game you may have ever experienced.” A smooth 60fps frame rate will enhance the sense of speed. Thanks to the Switch 2’s extra horsepower, Fast Fusion will support 4K and HDR.

While the futuristic racing looks familiar in the brief gameplay footage shown in today’s (2nd April) Nintendo Direct trailer, the ships are equipped with “antigravity hyper jump technology” allowing you to cut corners and jump over opponents.
A new vehicle customiser will let you create “hundreds” of different vehicles by “fusing your favourite vehicles.” This appears to be a central theme, judging from the game’s title.
Split-screen multiplayer for up to four players is also supported, along with motion controls and HD rumble.
Previous games in the series saw you get speed boosts by matching your ship’s exhaust colour with blue and orange boost pads on the track. This mechanic is set to return in Fast Fusion, as shown in a few seconds of gameplay during the Nintendo Direct presentation.
Fast Fusion release date
Fast Fusion will release on 5th June as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. A physical release is yet to be confirmed.
Incidentally, F-Zero, which heavily inspired the Fast series, is also returning to Switch 2 – sort of. Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can play F-Zero GX in the new GameCube classic library exclusive to Switch 2.
Racing game fans will be spoiled for choice on Nintendo’s new console, with Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders also set to launch alongside the Switch 2.
