A new F-Zero game wasn’t announced for Switch 2, but you can play the GameCube classic F-Zero GX on Nintendo’s new console.
During today’s (2nd April) Direct presentation, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch Online + Expansion Pack is getting a GameCube classic game library.
Exclusive to Switch 2, several GameCube classics will be playable via emulation, including the fabled futuristic racer F-Zero GX, as well as Luigi’s Mansion, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Soul Calibur II alongside the Switch 2’s launch. More games such as Luigi’s Mansion, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and Super Mario Sunshine will arrive at a later date.
Emulated GameCube games on Switch 2 will benefit from a higher resolution and “clearer image quality.” On Switch 2, F-Zero GX will also support multiplayer for up to four players locally and online.
You’ll need a Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription to access the GameCube library, which costs £34.99 / $49.99 for one year.

Developed by Sega’s Amusement Vision, F-Zero GX was originally released on the GameCube in 2003. It marks the last mainline entry on a home console, with the futuristic racing series going on hiatus after F-Zero Climax, a 2004 GameBoy Advance entry released exclusively in Japan.
F-Zero GX was renowned for its frenetic sense of speed and punishing difficulty. It also introduced a story mode with cut scenes, with you playing as series mascot Captain Falcon, as well as ship customisation. This will be the first time F-Zero GX has been re-released in 22 years.
With Nintendo also releasing F-Zero 99 and F-Zero X on Nintendo Switch, we’re hoping this will pave the way for the futuristic racing series to get a longoverdue new entry on Switch 2.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on 5th June 2025 priced at £395.99 / $449.99. A new open-world Mario Kart game, Mario Kart World, was also announced as a launch title.
