Alongside an updated method of collating multiplayer safety ratings and a Closed Beta to help test the functionality, F1 23 will continue to feature a wealth of online modes and features.

Does F1 23 have cross-play online multiplayer?

Yes, the F1 23 game will feature cross-platform online multiplayer across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. This also includes cross-generational multiplayer between PS4 and PS5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, on PC, those on Steam can play with those who purchased via Epic or EA’s own storefront.

This is handled via the in-built EA friends list feature and an EA account.

You must link an EA account, which is free to register for, with your gaming platform’s account, and add cross-platform friends through the EA friends list.

In F1 22, there was also the option to turn off online cross-platform play, if that’s your preference and we expect F1 23 to include the same feature.

Which modes does F1 cross-platform play work on?

Unlike F1 22, where cross-platform play only worked in the social play and two-player career modes, F1 23 will also enable it within ranked sessions for the very first time. Players can also view cross-platform online leaderboards in Time Trial mode, with separate leaderboards still available for each platform.

Custom, cross-platform league racing is also possible thanks to EA SPORTS’ EA Racenet feature, allowing players to create, join, schedule and manage custom multiplayer championships using the EA Racenet web app. The system is similar in operation to the ‘Clubs’ function in DiRT Rally 2.0, which shares development DNA with the F1 game series.

Does F1 23 come with a free console upgrade?

The standard edition of F1 23 does not include a next-generation console upgrade or Smart Delivery. The Champions Edition, for an extra fee, does include what EA calls Dual Entitlement, and that does include both versions.

The same applies to Xbox too.

If you purchase the Xbox One version, for example, and then later purchase an Xbox Series X|S, your Series X|S will play the Xbox One version via backwards compatibility, but you will need to purchase the Series X|S-specific version fo F1 23 to get the most out of your new system. Smart Delivery is not enabled.
