Euro Truck Simulator 2 developer SCS Software has understandably remained tight-lipped concerning the future of its Heart of Russia map expansion pack since the onset of the hostilities in Ukraine. However, yesterday, (30th May 2022) the Czech developer officially stated that the DLC has been postponed indefinitely.
SCS Software revealed that on the 24th of February they were only “6-8 weeks away from completing work” on the Russian-themed pack, just as Ukraine was invaded. They immediately decided not to press ahead with the release, deciding: “to refrain from releasing the DLC so that it is not perceived in any way as being in support of or tolerance of the aggression.”
A number of news resources have incorrectly stated the Heart of Russia DLC has been cancelled entirely. However, reading SCS Software’s latest blog post reveals that the team believes it may still see the light of day:
“when the time comes for Ukraine to rebuild and heal, then we will endeavour to find a way for our Heart of Russia DLC to play whatever part it can in that healing process, for everyone”
SCS Software has already helped the People in Need charity, which helps those affected by the war in Ukraine, by donating 100% of the proceeds of their recent Ukrainian Paint Jobs Pack DLC (standing at over 85,000 sales and counting).
We wonder if the Heart of Russia DLC will play a similar role in future?
