Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator to hit PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

The best, most popular, truck sims are finally to hit console devices.

  • Both created by SCS Software and sharing the same underpinnings, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator are the preeminent truck titles on PC
  • Now the market leaders are set for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles
  • Store listings for both games on both platforms are live, labelled as ‘announced’ and ‘release date to be determined’

There are many truck simulation-style games available for PlayStation and Xbox, but all (so far) are pale imitations of the real lorry legends – Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) and American Truck Simulator (ATS).

The problem is that SCS Software’s tech-sharing behemoths of haulage are resolutely PC-only. Great if you own a PC, not so great if you only have access to a console.

Except, not any more.

PlayStation and Xbox store listings are live for both titles, with a ‘release date to be determined’ tag and listed as ‘announced’ for both titles. These have arrived before any public acknowledgement from the Czech development team.

While the PS Store doesn’t list the platforms – although it does note that the ‘PS5 version’ has trigger vibration – the Xbox store states you can play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S within the specifications.

However, there is a clear and deliberate message within the game’s description that says “Note: Xbox Series X|S only.”

What makes Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator so revered?

Created using a proprietary Prism3D game engine, ETS2 was first released back in 2021, with ATS following in 2016. Both have extensive libraries of DLCs and expansions. It’s unclear if they will all follow the PC editions to consoles.

They are known for their realistic driving dynamics, licenced vehicles, large environments and online multiplayer. You can create a haulage business, building it up by completing delivery challenges and earning experience points and cash along the way.

Upcoming content for ETS2 includes a Nordic Horizons area, covering Norway, Sweden, and Finland, plus an Icelandic pack. Meanwhile, ATS players are awaiting the likes of Louisiana and Illinois.

Both titles are expecting new vehicle types, with the European sim announcing coaches and the American sim confirming Ford cars.
