If driving Euro Truck Simulator 2 wasn’t relaxing enough already, you can now unwind with the quietness of two further electric additions.
The BEV Scania 40 S and 45 S are now part of SCS Software’s popular haulage simulator within the quick jobs section.
Both feature gigantic 624 kWH batteries (roughly eight-and-a-half times the size of a Hyundai IONIQ 5’s cell pack) for a theoretic range of up to 530km – depending on conditions and trailer weight. Power is sent through a six-speed transmission to three electric motors.
The interior is similar to existing models from the Swedish brand – part of the Volkswagen group – apart from the addition of an electronic parking brake, instrument updates and blind spot monitoring.
To celebrate the launch, a ‘Take Charge’ livery has also been applied.
Chargers needed
Notably, ETS 2’s infrastructure is predominantly designed around fuel stops. Creating fully electric trucks to traverse freely and realistically would, theoretically, mean the creation of a recharging mechanic plus the necessary chargers.
Hence the Scanias and the recent Renault E-Tech T (the first BEV for the title), are limited to quick jobs up to 350km in distance. There’s an in-menu ‘emergency recharge’ function for now.
“Currently, we’re embarking on an experimental phase with our initial steps toward in-game electrification,” said developers SCS Software.
“Our cautious approach ensures a smooth experience as we gradually integrate electric vehicles into our virtual world.”
