Euro Truck Simulator 2’s latest truck is a literal game-changer, as it’s the first electric vehicle to be released for the SCS Software-developed title.

The Czech studio has dropped the Renault Trucks E-Tech T into its roster of heavy-haulers, opening up the possibility of more battery-powered trucks arriving in future.

The Renault has a real-world range of up to 500 km and produces a combined 490 kW from its three motors. The truck has a two-and-a-half hour DC charging time (up to 250 kW) and uses regenerative braking to enhance its range, with its interior featuring a fully digital dashboard with built-in blind sport detectors.

However, the Renault isn’t freely available to drive in ETS 2’s open-world environment just yet. Mimicking the real world, the game’s electric infrastructure requires a significant overhaul to accommodate electric vehicles, so for the moment the new vehicle is only available in its own ‘Quick Jobs’ menu, with delivery lengths limited to 300 km.

If players run out of juice while on the road, an emergency recharging service comes into play, but virtual truckers will be charged a small fee for the privilege. SCS states this will be a temporary measure as the necessary charging points are gradually added to ETS 2’s substantial lineup of gas stations and rest stops.

The Renault E-Tech T is available to try now in ETS 2 as a free download.
